The Importance of Antifouling and Antibacterial Coating

Antifouling and Antibacterial Coating

As people continue to pursue a healthy life, antifouling and antibacterial property have become a focus of our attention. In the marine anti-fouling technology, anti-fouling paint is used worldwide. In human life, there are many ways that pathogenic bacteria can be introduced into the human body, most of which are due to contact infection. Antibacterial coatings can form an antibacterial layer on the surface of objects, which can effectively kill or inhibit the growth and spread of pathogenic bacteria. Based on this, the research of antifouling and antibacterial coatings is of great significance.

Accelerate Research of Graphene in Antifouling and Antibacterial Coating

Graphene has excellent antibacterial properties. Compared with traditional antibacterial agents, graphene and its derivatives are not only potentially non-resistant physical antibiotics, but also have lower biological toxicity. Studies have shown that the performance of the marine antifouling coating obtained by replacing the toxic antifouling agent of cuprous chloride with the graphene/TiO2 composite material is significantly improved.

Bacterial cells cannot grow on graphene's surface, and graphene does not exert adverse effects on human cells. Therefore, graphene can be used to make bandages, food packaging and even antibacterial T-shirts. Experiments show that the Ag/graphene complex prepared by in-situ chemical reduction method has different antibacterial properties against Escherichia Coli. Antibacterial coatings prepared by using the antibacterial properties of graphene can be used in hospitals, medical equipment, food storage and transportation, kindergartens, kitchens, toilets and other occasions that require antibacterial properties.
